The Roorkee Chair is one of the most iconic pieces of Campaign Furniture, admired for its clean lines, uncompromising joinery, and refined use of wood, brass, and leather. First developed in Roorkee, India, in 1898, it became the trusted companion of British officers and explorers for its lightweight, portable, and incredibly durable design.

This handmade chair is built from African Sapele hardwood and vegetable-tanned English bridle leather, with custom hardware, solid brass screws, hand-stitched seams, and heavy copper rivets. The Havana Brown leather, supplied and crafted by Texas Heritage using hides from Weaver Leather Supply was chosen for its strength, beauty, and longevity.

Unlike conventional chairs, the Roorkee’s joints are left unglued, allowing it to flex and adapt to uneven terrain - from rocky hillsides to sandy beaches - while providing exceptional comfort. Leaning back engages the floating backrest, delivering natural lumbar support for long hours of relaxation. A brilliant 19th-century design that later inspired the “safari chair,” the Roorkee remains as functional today as it was over a century ago - equally at home in the field, at camp, or as a timeless accent in a modern living space.
